Use each feeding as an opportunity to build your newborn's sense of security, trust and comfort. ||Infant constipation is the passage of hard, dry bowel movements — not necessarily the absence of daily bowel movements ||Infants raised on breast milk tend to score higher on tests of mental development than those on formula ||Children who gain weight quickly during their first six months are more likely to be obese or at risk of obesity by age 3 ||During growth spurts - around 6 weeks after birth — your newborn might want to be fed more often ||Make sure the highchair has a wide base, good fit, adjustable secure straps. Consider a post between the child's legs. ||As a new baby mother who has to breast feed you should make sure that you drink lots of water ... Make a habit out of drinking a glass of water every time you feed your baby. This will ensure that you are getting your water, and help your body produce enough milk. ||The pacifier’s guard or shield should have ventilation holes so the baby can breathe if the shield does get into the mouth ||AAP recommends to avoid blankets (a potential suffocation hazard) until your baby reaches her first birthday ||Don't allow your pet on the couch while you are holding baby. This makes dogs bigger and taller in relation to your infant and may encourage aggression. ||
Basic Health Standards at Child Care Centers

When considering a particular child care setting, you need to know all the rules and practices that would affect your baby, especially hygienic ones. While touring the child care home or center, check to see if the following basic health and safety standards are being met:

    • The premises are clean and reasonably neat (without discouraging play by the children).
    • There is plenty of play equipment, and it is in good repair.
    • The equipment is appropriate for the developmental skills of the children in the program.
    • Babies are closely supervised when climbing on play-things, roughhousing, or playing with blocks (which are sometimes thrown) and other potentially dangerous toys.
    • Food is stored in an appropriate manner and if the child care site is preparing the food, that it is nutritious.
    • Areas where food is handled are clearly separate from toilets and diaper-changing areas.
    • Diaper-changing areas are cleaned and sanitized before and after being used for each infant.
    • Hand washing sinks are available where they are needed and are used not only by the children, but also by the staff members to wash their hands.
    • Potty (or training) chairs are avoided in order to decrease the risk of spreading germs that cause diarrhea.
    • Children are supervised by sight and sound at all times, even when napping.
